Shortly before the shooting, he sent his father a text message asking him to check his computer, which led the father to discover the gunman’s writings and notify 911. However, the shooting had already begun by the time the police received the notification.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, with one of the store’s former employees, Penny Jones, telling the Associated Press that she is still waiting to hear about her former co-workers. Jones lives in the predominantly black neighborhood near the store and is worried about her safety. “I don’t know if it’s safe to move about the neighborhood,” she said.
