Andrew Tate, a social media influencer and kick-boxer, has had his “emergency” request to visit his mother in a UK hospital rejected by a Romanian court. Tate’s mother reportedly suffered a heart attack, and he made the request to leave Romania after being charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming a criminal gang. While Tate and his brother have denied all allegations, they are currently under house arrest in Romania awaiting trial.
Romanian prosecutors have alleged that the Tate brothers, along with two Romanian nationals, formed an organized crime group in early 2021 to commit human trafficking in Romania, the UK, the US, and other countries. The alleged victims were taken to buildings in Ilfov county in Romania where they were intimidated, placed under constant surveillance and control, and forced into debt. The defendants allegedly forced the victims to participate in pornography, which was later shared on social media.
Tate has repeatedly claimed that Romanian prosecutors have no evidence against him and that there is a political conspiracy designed to silence him. He has been banned from various prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and hate speech. Tate’s spokesperson said the ruling to reject his request to visit his mother has left them “disheartened”.
In a statement given to the Associated Press, Tate’s spokesperson said: “The ruling has left us disheartened.” Tate himself took to social media to express his disappointment, saying: “Rejected. The Romanian state decided she must be alone at Christmas, if she is alive.” He later added: “There’s no innocent until proven guilty in Romania.”
The rejection of Tate’s request to visit his mother comes after a Bucharest court earlier eased geographical restrictions on the Tate brothers, allowing them to travel anywhere in Romania while awaiting trial. The case against the Tate brothers is due to take place, and it remains to be seen how the charges against them will be resolved.
In the meantime, Tate has continued to take to social media to voice his innocence and protest the treatment he has received at the hands of Romanian authorities. With his large following on platforms such as X, he has been able to spread his message and garner support from his fans. However, many have criticized Tate’s views and behavior, and his cases have been met with widespread condemnation.
