Nikki Haley, a Republican candidate for president, didn’t say she wouldn’t pardon Hunter Biden if he’s found guilty of a crime and she becomes president. She thinks it’s not smart to make a decision right now because we don’t know all the facts.
“I’m not even going to think about that,” she told NBC News. “I don’t even know what they’ve found him guilty on yet. I know that what we’ve seen in the Department of Justice system, if anything, is they’re not treating everybody fairly.”
Haley thinks the way the Justice Department has handled cases involving the Biden family and Hillary Clinton has been different from how they treated former President Donald Trump. She’s promised to pardon Trump if she becomes president because she thinks it’s not good for the country to have an 80-year-old president in jail.
Hunter Biden, the president’s son, is facing serious charges. He’s been accused of not paying over $1 million in taxes and lying when he bought a gun. If he’s found guilty, he could go to prison for a long time.
Haley said she won’t decide about pardoning Hunter Biden until she knows all the facts. She believes it’s important to look at each case separately before making a decision. She thinks it’s not right to decide about pardoning someone’s son without knowing all the details.
When NBC News asked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the same question, he seemed surprised and said, “No!” He believes that the Justice Department’s handling of Hunter Biden and Trump’s cases is different. DeSantis thinks that pardoning Trump could help the country move forward, but he wouldn’t consider pardoning Hunter Biden.
