Michelle Obama expressed that she’s very worried about what might happen in the 2024 election. She talked about her concerns during an interview on a podcast with Jay Shetty.
Shetty asked Obama what worries her the most after overcoming many challenges. She replied that it’s not just about her, but about the whole world. She mentioned that being in the White House means knowing a lot about what’s happening, which can be overwhelming. She said, “What keeps me up are the things that I know.”
Obama mentioned several specific concerns, like ongoing wars, the impact of artificial intelligence on people, and climate change. She also wondered why more people aren’t voting.
She explained, “Those are the things that keep me up because you don’t have control over them and you wonder where are we in this, where are our hearts? What’s gonna happen in this next election?”
Obama admitted feeling terrified about what could happen because the leaders we choose have a big impact on our lives. She said, “Our leaders matter, who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit. It affects us in ways that I think sometimes people take for granted.”
Obama emphasized that we should not take democracy for granted and expressed worry that people might not realize how much the government does for them.
“We cannot take this democracy for granted and sometimes I worry that we do,” Obama said. “Those are the things that keep me up.”
