Instead of starting something new, the Patriots might just stick with what they know.
Josh McDaniels, who used to help run the Patriots’ offense, might come back if the team keeps Bill Belichick as the head coach, The Athletic says.
Belichick and Kraft talked about the team’s future on Monday, and they might have another meeting.
That’s where McDaniels could come in.
He used to be Belichick’s offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2008 and again from 2012 to 2021. But then he left to coach the Raiders.
But things didn’t go well for McDaniels in Las Vegas. The team didn’t do well in 2022 or 2023, and he got fired in October.
When McDaniels and Belichick worked together in New England, they had a lot of success, including winning six Super Bowls with quarterback Tom Brady.
This year, though, the Patriots struggled. They finished with only four wins and had a lot of problems, including with their quarterback.
In their last game, they lost to the Jets, who had been on a long losing streak, and their backup quarterback didn’t play well.
Belichick didn’t say much about what’s next for him after the game. He said he’s open to whatever is best for the team.
Kraft hasn’t decided yet if Belichick will stay or go.
So, for now, there’s a chance McDaniels might come back to the Patriots, making things a bit more interesting for the team’s future.
