Prosecutors decided not to charge former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías with felony crimes, according to reports.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is sending the case to the City Attorney’s office to consider misdemeanor charges. They say the injuries to the victim and Urías’s past don’t justify felony charges.
Urías was arrested on September 3 after an MLS match between LAFC and Inter Miami CF.
According to reports, Urías was accused of pushing his wife against a fence and pulling her hair or shoulders.
After the arrest, he was released on a $50,000 bond. MLB put him on administrative leave, ending his season.
The California Highway Patrol’s major crimes division investigated the incident and gave its findings to the DA on December 11.
Although the legal side may be resolved, MLB still has to investigate and may punish him if he violated the league’s domestic violence policy. This isn’t the first time Urías has been involved in such an incident; he was suspended for 20 games in 2019 under the same policy.
It’s uncertain when MLB’s investigation will finish and if Urías will face consequences.
Urías is now a free agent, but it’s unknown if he’ll join another team. Before the September incident, he was expected to get a $200 million contract in free agency.
This season, he had a 4.60 ERA in 117 ¹/₃ innings, with a career ERA of 3.11.
