Nkechi Diallo, formerly known as Rachel Dolezal, first sparked controversy in 2015 when it was revealed that she had falsely claimed to be Black. Her parents, Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal exposed her true racial identity, stating she was born to White parents.
Diallo had been presenting herself as Black while leading the Spokane, Washington chapter of the NAACP. Despite her parents’ assertions and public evidence, Diallo maintained her identity as Black, citing complex personal beliefs about race.
Following the controversy, Diallo resigned from her NAACP position and lost her part-time teaching job at Eastern Washington University. She faced significant public backlash and struggled to find employment.
In 2017, she legally changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo, hoping to escape the notoriety attached to her former name and gain employment based on her qualifications.
Despite these efforts, she continued to face difficulties, relying on food stamps and her friend’s assistance for rent.
In 2017, Diallo published a memoir, “In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World,” detailing her experiences. She also had a son that year.
By 2021, she moved to Tucson, Arizona, and took up various jobs, including hair braiding, painting, and making Cameo videos.
In February 2024, Diallo was fired from her job as an after-school instructor and substitute teacher in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills School District after the administration discovered her OnlyFans account.
The district cited her posts as violating their social media and staff ethics policies. This marked another chapter in Diallo’s ongoing struggle to find stability and acceptance after her initial controversy.
