Jeffrey Piccolo, the husband of a doctor from New York who passed away shortly after eating at a Disney Springs restaurant last year, has filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Florida, claiming negligence.
Piccolo is seeking over $50,000 for the wrongful death of Kanokporn Tangsuan, who worked as a doctor at New York University Langone hospital. The lawsuit was filed on Feb. 22 in Orange County, Florida.
According to the lawsuit, Tangsuan had dinner at Raglan Road Irish Pub on October 5, 2023, with her husband and mother-in-law. She had severe allergies to nuts and dairy and told the waiter she needed “allergen-free food.”
The couple asked the waiter multiple times about the menu items, and the waiter checked with the chef to ensure the food could be made allergen-free. Tangsuan ordered a fritter, scallops, and onion rings after confirming with the waiter.
However, when the food arrived, some items didn’t have “allergen-free flags.” Despite this, the waiter assured them the food was safe.
After dinner, Tangsuan and her mother-in-law went shopping at Disney Springs while Piccolo returned to their room with leftover food. Around 45 minutes later, Tangsuan had difficulty breathing and collapsed in Planet Hollywood. She had used an epi-pen for her allergic reaction.
Her mother-in-law tried to contact her, but received no response. Later, she was informed that Tangsuan had been taken to the hospital, where she passed away.
An investigation revealed Tangsuan died from “anaphylaxis due to higher levels of dairy and nut in her system.”
The lawsuit claims Raglan Road failed to properly train its staff to ensure food was allergen-free.
Walt Disney World and Great Irish Pubs Florida have not responded to requests for comment on the lawsuit.
