General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor died while protecting a coworker from thieves who were trying to steal his car, his brother revealed.
Johnny, known for his role as Brando Corbin in the ABC soap opera, was killed in downtown Los Angeles on May 25. It happened when he saw three men trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car.
Grant Wactor, Johnny’s younger brother, explained that Johnny had just finished his bartending shift and was walking with a female coworker when he spotted the thieves near his car.
“We’re Southern, born and raised, and we would never let a female walk to their car by herself,” Grant said. “He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’”
When Johnny realized what was happening, he tried to protect his coworker from the thieves.
“And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him,” Grant explained.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. near Hope Street and Pico Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Johnny’s mother, Scarlett Wactor, expressed her disbelief and sadness over the incident, calling it a “senseless coward act.”
The producers of General Hospital shared their condolences, describing Johnny as a unique and delightful person to work with.
Johnny’s agent, David Shaul, also praised him as not just a talented actor, but also a moral example. He highlighted Johnny’s commitment to hard work and positivity, stating that Johnny would be deeply missed by all who knew him.
