Georgie Campbell, a 37-year-old equestrian, passed away on Sunday, May 26, during a horse competition in the U.K.
She fell off her horse during the event, called the Bicton International Horse Trials, which took place in Devon, England. The organization that oversees horse competitions in the UK, British Eventing, shared the sad news.
The organization said, “It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024. Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved.”
They also mentioned that out of respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time, no further details would be shared.
Her horse, Global Quest, was unharmed in the accident.
The police were informed about the incident at around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 26. They stated, “The woman was in her 30s and from Kent. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Georgie Campbell was a seasoned rider, having competed in more than 200 events, including prestigious ones like the Badminton Horse Trials and the Burghley Horse Trials.
She was married to another rider, Jesse Campbell, who represented New Zealand in the 2020 Summer Olympics. The couple often shared their riding experiences on Instagram.
Under a recent post on their joint account, fans and friends expressed their condolences and shared memories of Georgie.
Many remembered her as a brave and talented rider, gone too soon. They expressed their sympathy for her family and friends during this difficult time.
