Russian Missiles Pound Ukraine’s Cities

The Russian military launched a devastating attack on several Ukrainian cities on Monday, causing widespread destruction and casualties. The assault, which caught many Ukrainians off guard, targeted five cities, including Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The nighttime barrage was so fierce that it interrupted heart surgeries at the country’s largest children’s hospital and forced young cancer patients to take their treatments outdoors.

At least 31 people were killed, and over 150 others were wounded, according to officials. The hospital, located in the heart of Kyiv, was struck by multiple rockets, causing significant damage and casualties. Rescuers are still searching for people trapped under the rubble of the partially collapsed wing of the facility. The hospital’s main building, which houses the intensive care unit, operating theaters, and oncology departments, was also damaged, leaving medical personnel and patients stranded.

The attack forced the hospital to shut down and evacuate, with families seeking shelter elsewhere. Many mothers were seen carrying their children away from the hospital, some on their backs, while others waited in the courtyard, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones. The attack also caused panic among the hospital staff, with doctors and nurses struggling to cope with the chaos.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed that the strikes targeted Ukrainian defense plants and military air bases, and were successful. However, Ukrainian officials and global leaders have denounced the attack, calling it a “depraved” act of aggression. Western leaders, who have supported Ukraine in the war, are set to meet at a NATO summit in Washington to reaffirm their commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty and offer hope for a resolution to the conflict.

The attack has elicited a strong reaction from around the world, with many leaders condemning the Russian aggression. UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer tweeted, “Attacking innocent children. The most depraved of actions. We stand with Ukraine against Russian aggression – our support won’t falter.” The International community has been vocal in its condemnation of the attack, with many calling for an immediate ceasefire and a withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to deteriorate, the world is left to ponder the devastating consequences of Russia’s actions. The attack on the children’s hospital serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of war on innocent civilians and underscores the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
