In the lead-up to the election, former President Donald Trump took center stage in a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, leveraging a recent controversial comment made by President Joe Biden. Trump used Biden’s remark, which seemed to disparage Trump supporters as “garbage,” as a prop during his campaign.

He arrived at the rally wearing a bright orange and yellow safety vest and climbed into a garbage truck adorned with a prominent “TRUMP” sign, using the opportunity to engage with reporters and criticize Biden’s comment.

Biden has since denied the accusation that he referred to Trump supporters as “garbage,” asserting that his statement was misinterpreted. The White House clarified that Biden was addressing a specific individual—a comedian who made disparaging remarks about Puerto Rico—rather than Trump supporters as a whole. Nonetheless, Trump and other Republicans have seized on this misstep to galvanize their base and redirect attention from Biden’s rally in New York, where the original comment was made.

From the garbage truck, Trump insinuated that Vice President Kamala Harris was responsible for the comment, comparing it to Hillary Clinton’s infamous “deplorables” remark during the 2016 election.

In his usual style, Trump continued to attack both Biden and Harris, emphasizing that he did not foresee a need for military intervention in response to protests from “enemies within,” referring to potential dissenters if he were to reclaim the presidency. He also reiterated his conditional acceptance of election results, stating he would concede only if no evidence of cheating surfaced.

At the Green Bay rally, Trump took time to recount how the spectacle of the garbage truck came together, praising his team for the swift arrangement. He humorously described his trepidation in climbing into the truck while surrounded by cameras, revealing a self-deprecating moment when he fumbled with the door handle. He presented the event as an opportunity to connect with supporters while emphasizing his campaign’s ongoing narrative against the Biden administration.

Vice President Harris responded to Biden’s comments by asserting the importance of representing all Americans, regardless of their political affiliations. She made it clear that criticism based on voting choices was unacceptable.

During the rally, NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre also voiced his support for Trump, questioning Biden’s remarks and affirming that Trump supporters are not “garbage.” Trump concluded the rally by reinforcing his commitment to protecting women in America, a message he declared he would continue to promote regardless of opposition from any group.
