A remarkable incident unfolded in Hunter Valley, Australia, where a woman found herself trapped between two boulders while trying to retrieve her phone. This unusual scenario took place earlier this month, as reported by NSW Ambulance.
The woman slipped into a crevice approximately 10 feet deep, becoming stuck and unable to call for help. Fortunately, she was accompanied by friends who were able to assist her in the crisis.
When the woman became wedged in the boulders, her friends attempted to free her but were unsuccessful. With no phone reception to call for help herself, they resorted to dialing Triple Zero (000), Australia’s emergency number. By this point, the woman had been hanging upside down by her feet for over an hour. This prompted a swift response from NSW Ambulance, who mobilized to conduct the rescue.
The rescue operation proved to be challenging and time-consuming, lasting a total of seven hours. Peter Watts, a Specialist Rescue Paramedic with NSW Ambulance, noted that in his decade of experience, he had never encountered a rescue quite like this.
The rescue team worked diligently to remove heavy boulders to create a safe access point for the trapped woman. They also constructed a hardwood frame to stabilize the area during the rescue efforts.
As the rescuers approached the woman’s feet, they faced additional complications when trying to free her from a tight “S” bend in the rocks. Utilizing a specialized lifting device, they managed to lift a massive boulder weighing about 1,100 pounds, allowing them to further assist the woman. Remarkably, despite the harrowing situation, she sustained only minor scratches and bruises.
After the long ordeal, the woman was unable to recover her phone, which had initially prompted her precarious situation. Despite the challenges faced during the rescue, Watts expressed pride in the collaboration among various agencies that contributed to the successful outcome, highlighting the teamwork and dedication that ensured the woman’s safe retrieval from the boulders.
