Romanian police raided the home of controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate in Bucharest on Wednesday, amidst new allegations related to human trafficking and underage sex. Tate, who has gained notoriety for his misogynistic views and ultra-masculine lifestyle, is under investigation for serious crimes, including trafficking and sexual relations with a minor.
The raid is part of an ongoing investigation led by Romania’s anti-organized crime unit, Diicot, which conducted four searches in Ilfov County and Bucharest. The investigation focuses on allegations involving the creation of a criminal organization, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation of minors, among other charges.
Tate and his brother, Tristan, were previously charged with human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women, accusations they have consistently denied. They, along with two Romanian women, are awaiting trial. The recent raid adds to the legal challenges the brothers face, though their legal team is actively involved to ensure due process.
During the raid, armed police in balaclavas were seen at Tate’s residence, some equipped with tools like a battering ram to potentially force entry. This high-profile operation underscores the seriousness of the ongoing investigation. A representative for the Tate brothers confirmed the raid and mentioned that the legal team was present to oversee the proceedings, though they noted that the allegations were still not fully clarified.
Despite the mounting legal issues, Tate continues to assert that there is no evidence against him and that he is the victim of a political conspiracy aimed at silencing him. Tate, who has been banned from various social media platforms for his misogynistic and hate-filled content, remains a polarizing figure with a significant following, especially among young men.
