Alice Cooper, actual name Vincent Damon Furnier, is an American rock vocalist who has been performing for more than 50 years. Cooper’s raspy voice and theatrical spectacle, which features pyrotechnics, guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, snakes, baby dolls, and dueling swords, have earned him the title “The Godfather of Shock Rock” by many music critics and peers.

Furnier was a member of the original Alice Cooper band, which also included lead guitarist Glen Buxton, rhythm guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith.
Except for Smith, who graduated from Camelback High School (which is mentioned in the song “Alma Mater” on the band’s fifth studio album School’s Out), every member of the band ran cross-country for Cortez High School.

Pretties for You, Cooper’s first studio album, was experimental and provided a psychedelic setting for their songs. It was an eclectic release from 1969.

Origin Of The Godfather of Shock Rock

Initially, it seemed like Alice Cooper’s “shock rock” reputation almost happened by accident. After Cooper’s, a feather pillow, and a live chicken did an unexpected stage routine that garnered media attention, the band made the decision to cash in on the tabloid sensationalism.

In a recent statement, the group highlighted the lone Pink Floyd album produced by founding member Syd Barrett (lead vocals and guitar), as a significant inspiration. Glen Buxton said he could lose himself in Barrett’s guitar for hours.

In July 2017, Cooper released Paranormal, his sixteenth studio album as a solo artist. Larry Mullen Jr., the drummer from U2, Billy Gibbons, the guitarist from ZZ Top, and Roger Glover, the bassist from Deep Purple all contributed to it. The majority of the guitars were provided by Tommy Denander and Tommy Henriksen, two guitarists.

On February 26, 2021, Cooper released Detroit Stories, his twenty-first solo studio album. In May of that same year, he also announced a fall tour to support the record, which will feature Ace Frehley.
Road, Cooper’s 22nd studio album, was released on August 25, 2023.
