Athelstan Joseph Michael Eavis, or just Michael Eavis as some may know him, is a dairy farmer who also shares hosting duties for the summer Glastonbury Festival at his farm in Pilton, Somerset.
The 87-year-old was born there as well. Michael Eavis joined the British Merchant Navy after completing his studies at the Thames Nautical Training College in Kent.
He particularly joined the Union-Castle Line, a British shipping company, where he remained as a midshipman.
Eavis apparently intended to stay in the army for the ensuing 20 years in order to retire afterward and receive a pension that would supplement his family’s income, but the unexpected death of his father compelled him to return home.
Despite inheriting his father’s 150-acre farm, he worked at other farms in Nettlebridge to support his family.
