Douglas E. Davis, a.k.a. Doug E. Fresh, was born in Christ Church, Barbados, on September 17, 1966. He began beatboxing as a youth and was born and raised in Harlem, New York.
Douglas claimed, “he was probably around 13 or 14. And after school, I used to beatbox as I walked home. That’s the way I made it. Back then, walkmans, iPods, and CDs were not available. Only I was present. There was a boom box back then.”

In 1980, Fresh, a Charles Evans Hughes High School student, met DJ Chill Will, another future member of the Get Fresh Crew.
Together, the two started creating personalized mixtapes for $25 each, with Will handling the turntables and Doug acting as an MC and beatboxer.
