In Flushing, Queens, New York, on September 30, 1957, Francine Joy Drescher was born. Her father was a naval systems analyst, while her mother was a bridal consultant. She was reared Jewish and lived with her older sister in Kew Garden Hills, Queens.

Her father’s family is from Poland, while her maternal great-grandmother immigrated to the US from Romania. Drescher finished in second place for Miss New York Teenager when she was sixteen.

She attended Parson’s Junior High School in Flushing before transferring to Jamaica, Queens’ Hillcrest High School.

She completed her education in 1975 and briefly enrolled in Queens College, City University of New York. She dropped out of acting programs because they were all full and went to cosmetology school instead.

On September 30, 1957, Fran Drescher and Fran Fine were born in Flushing, Queens. She and Ray Romano were classmates in high school, where she first met her first husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. They were married in 1978 when she was 21 years old.

Her big screen debut was in 1977 when she co-starred with John Travolta as a dancer in the disco hit Saturday Night Fever.
