If you’re a UFC or mixed martial arts enthusiast, you’ve probably heard that popular professional UFC fighter, The Korean Zombie, has retired. Jung Chan-sung, often known as Chan Sung Jung or The Korean Zombie, is a former South Korean professional mixed martial artist.

In the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he participated in the Featherweight class. Since 2007, Jung has competed professionally. Before that, he competed for the WEC, Pancrase, World Victory Road, and DEEP.
The Korean Zombie’s title relates to his legendary ability to continue going forward and engage in furious fights despite major injuries. As of August 2023, he is 10th in the UFC featherweight rankings.
His Early Life
Jang was born in Pohang, South Korea, in 1987 and spent his middle years living in Namyangju, a neighborhood of Seoul; just because of his diminutive stature and rural upbringing, his schoolmates frequently mocked him and got into heated arguments with him.
Around 14, his aunt took him to a nearby hapkido gym because she could not see him in that state.
Jung trained in kickboxing before entering his junior year of high school. Before entering his junior year of high school, Jung trained in kickboxing. Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology is where he received his degree, and later, he started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo.

The Korean Zombie’s Career
Jung made his professional debut in 2007, and in December of the same year, he took first place in a Pancrase Korea-hosted Lightweight Tournament.
He won both of his fights in 2008 for the Japanese promotion DEEP. He competed in the 2009 Sengoku Featherweight Grand Prix, winning his first-round match but losing to Masanori Kanehara, who went on to win the event.
The Korean Zombie was eliminated when Masanori Kanehara defeated him in a second-round match at Sengoku 8. In 2011, at UFC Fight Night 23, Jung was scheduled to take on Rani Yahya. Jung, however, got injured and had to leave the card.
On April 9, 2022, at UFC 273, Jung made a second bid for the UFC Featherweight Championship against Alexander Volkanovski. Jung lost the fight via TKO early in round four after being repeatedly out-hit and put down throughout the bout.
Jung competed with Max Holloway for the final time in his MMA career on August 26, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 225. Jung confirmed his retirement following the fight. The winner of the contest received the title Fight of the Night.
