Apple, at its recent event, announced its macOS Big Sur operating system which was launched on November 12. After the release, all new Macs will run now with the macOS Big Sur out of the box programme. Apple first announced this at its Worldwide Developers Conference in the month of June, where we got a first look at the new OS.
The new OS contains a redesign of visuals, Message app, new Safari browser, a refreshed version of Maps and many more. This is the biggest redesign of the operation system of macOS since OS X, which was over 20 years ago. The new virtual resign brings tweaks to the curves of the window corners, dock icons and colours of the user interface. Many apps such as Photos will now look similar to their counterparts on iPadOS and Ios.
The new operating system gets a software called the Rosetta 2, which helps the company with its shift from Intel-based processors to Apple Silicon. This software helps older Macs with intel processors run the latest software made for Apple Silicon.
The company also announced that users will also be able to run apps made for the iPhone and iPad. Companies like Adobe have already started pushing out macOS Big Sur compatible software which can run both on Intel and Apple Silicon.
The macOS Big Sur will be compatible with all the new macs launched recently, which includes the new MacBook Air, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro 13-inch. The update will also be made available for the MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iMac, iMac Pro and Mac Pro.
Users can update by clicking the Apple logo located on the top left corner of your display, then About This Mac option, which has the check for updates button.
Black screen issues faced by MacBook users
After the release, many MacBook Pros from 2013 and 2014 were faced with black screen issues, effectively bricking the laptops. It is advised that if you own them, do not update these machines to Apple’s latest macOS until a more permanent solution is given by Apple. However if you do have updated it, then there is a fix from apple which can help you with your issue.
The Apple support page advises you to;
Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds, then release
Unplug all of your external devices including any accessories and remove any card inserted in the SDXC slot
If your issue persists, reset the SMAC as described for notebook computers with non-removable battery
If the issue persists, reset NVRAM or PRAM
If none of the above-mentioned solutions work, contact Apple Support for further assistance.
