Portnoy was at the Rose Bowl Stadium to watch Michigan face off against Alabama. It was a close game, but Michigan won in overtime.
Portnoy had bet a million dollars on Michigan to win against Alabama. After the win, he celebrated inside the stadium.
Michigan’s quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, made a big play to tie the game. Then, in overtime, running back Blake Corum scored the game-winning touchdown.

He was more excited about Michigan winning than the money he won from his bet.
Now, Michigan will play for the national championship. Portnoy said he doesn’t care about the money; he just wants Michigan to win.
Even though Alabama lost, Portnoy still likes their team. He offered to pay off the house of a big Alabama fan.
Michigan will play for the national title against the winner of the Washington and Texas game next Monday in Houston.
