Bronx Community Mourns Loss of 5-Year-Old Boy in Devastating House Fire

In the Bronx on Wednesday evening, there was a fire in a building that led to the death of a 5-year-old boy and injured three other people.

The fire started around 5:20 p.m. in the basement of a three-story building located at 4011 Barnes Ave. in the East Bronx. Fire Department Deputy Chief Keith Scanlon mentioned that firefighters arrived quickly, within about three minutes, but the basement was already filled with flames when they got there.

“It was tough for us to move around because the space was small,” Scanlon said.

He also mentioned that smoke had spread throughout the entire basement area.
