Tina Fey disclosed discussions with Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert for cameo roles.
While scheduling conflicts prevented their involvement, Fey, who both authored the original screenplay and portrayed Ms. Norbury, returned for the new film, contributing to its screenplay.
Fey’s decision to revisit the 2004 classic stemmed from a deep sense of appreciation for its enduring impact. She acknowledged the film’s imperfections but regarded it as a culmination of her best efforts at the time.
Although open to sequels, Fey emphasized the challenge of capturing the same youthful intensity that made the original storyline compelling.
McAdams, known for her portrayal of Regina George, expressed interest in the new adaptation but opted out of a Mean Girls-themed Walmart commercial. She cited unfamiliarity with commercial work and was unaware of the cast’s participation.
The new film stars Avantika, Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, and Bebe Wood, with Lohan appearing at the premiere. Reflecting on her role as a mother following the birth of her son Luai, Lohan jokingly embraced the “cool mom” label.
Mean Girls, known for its sharp wit and portrayal of high school dynamics, is set to delight audiences again when it hits theaters on January 12th.
