Uncertainty Looms Over Kep1er’s Future as Contract Nears End

As Kep1er’s 2-year contract approaches its end in July 2024, discussions about extending the group’s activities are underway. On January 12, it was reported that Wake One is actively pursuing the extension of Kep1er’s contracts, aiming to prolong the group’s promotional period.

Wake One revealed, “Last year, we proactively engaged in meetings with all agencies to establish a long-term activity roadmap and strategy for the artist. Despite our best efforts, we could not reach an agreement with the previous agency. However, as time remains in the activity period, we will continue mutual discussions.” This aligns with the agency’s position stated in September 2023.

Kep1er’s contract is set to expire in July 2024, and renewal discussions are ongoing.

The agency emphasized, “Wake One has not abandoned discussions for the extension of Kep1er’s activities, maintaining an unchanged position.”

Meanwhile, LIMELIGHT, a group under 143 Entertainment, released their 3rd mini-album ‘LAST DANCE’ on January 12 and announced plans for a period of group reorganization. Kep1er members Kang Ye Seo and Mashiro are expected to return to 143 Entertainment for individual activities after Kep1er’s contract concludes.

Debuting on January 3, 2022, through Mnet’s ‘Girls Planet 999,’ Kep1er has achieved significant popularity, especially in Japan, since their debut album ‘FIRST IMPACT’ and the title track “WA DA DA.” The group’s future activities beyond their initial contract end date remain uncertain and depend on ongoing negotiations.
