Authorities identified the driver as a 44-year-old woman from Chatham, who was the only person in the vehicle. Law enforcement continues to investigate the cause and circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway so dramatically.

Following the crash, state and local police cordoned off the affected area around the YNOT facility. Police tape marked the perimeter, and a command van was stationed at the scene, reflecting the gravity of the incident. Investigators and emergency personnel worked diligently to secure the site and collect evidence while the community began grappling with the horror of what had unfolded in their town of just over 14,000 residents.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker responded with a heartfelt statement, expressing sorrow over the loss of young lives and the injuries sustained. He described the tragedy as “unspeakable” and extended his condolences to the affected families. Acknowledging the deep emotional toll on the community, the governor emphasized the unimaginable pain the parents and loved ones must now endure, offering prayers and support from both himself and First Lady MK Pritzker.
