2PM’s Taecyeon is set to take on the role of the gay lead in the upcoming Japanese Netflix drama ‘Soul Mate’. Netflix released a teaser image on June 27, revealing that the series will depict a 10-year love story between two men, traversing the cities of Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo. The drama is crafted by writer and director Shunki Hashizume, known for ‘Scroll’ and ‘More Than Words’.
Taecyeon will co-star with veteran Japanese actor Hayato Isomura, who has been featured in ‘Alice in Borderland’, ‘Kinou Nani Tabeta?’, and ‘Kamen Rider Ghost’. Taecyeon will portray Johan, a boxer who struggles with his emotional wounds. Isomura plays Ryu, a man who leaves his life in Japan behind.
The plot thickens when Johan saves Ryu’s life, leading to a transformative journey for both characters as they understand the meaning of love.
Expressing his excitement, Taecyeon shared, “I am very happy to appear in ‘Soulmate’. I wanted to expand my acting spectrum with new characters and genres, and ‘Soulmate’ offered the perfect opportunity. The script intrigued me with Johan’s complex character, and I have been training rigorously to bring authenticity to the role.”
‘Soul Mate’ is scheduled for release in 2025, promising a profound, heartfelt narrative.
