Katori Hall’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, *The Hot Wing King*, premiered in the U.K. at London’s National Theatre on July 18, after starting previews on July 11. Directed by Roy Alexander Weise, the show will run until September 14 in the Dorfman Theatre, sharing its story with London audiences.

The story is set at a Memphis Hot Wing Festival, where Cordell, his partner Dwayne, and their friends Isom and Big Charles aim to win the competition. Their plans are disrupted by a family emergency, adding both comedy and drama. First premiering Off-Broadway in 2020, the play highlights themes of friendship and perseverance through unexpected challenges.

In the U.K. production, Kadiff Kirwan takes on the role of Cordell, joined by Jason Barnett as Big Charles, Kaireece Denton as Everett “EJ,” Olisa Odele as Isom, Simon-Anthony Rhoden as Dwayne, and Dwane Walcott as TJ. The ensemble cast delivers a vibrant and nuanced performance, capturing the essence of their characters and the story’s central themes.

The creative team for this production includes Rajha Shakiry, who handles both set and costume design, Joshua Pharo on lighting design, Femi Temowo providing the music, Elena Peña overseeing sound design, and DK Fashola contributes choreography. Casting has been managed by Jacob Sparrow, ensuring a talented and dynamic group of actors to bring the story to life on stage. This well-rounded creative effort enhances the play’s authentic and engaging portrayal of its narrative and characters.
